Poetry must embody ‘the finest meaning’. Meaning which through ordinariness of the word reveals the human world in its complexity, its beauty and its truth in the telling. Narrative poetry tells a story and is used in drama to provide insight and psychological depth to characters and their complex relationships to one another.

Poetry is an art form an endowment of the individual which can then be developed. The poem tells of all things, human Love, Death, Loyalty, Bravery, and the real spirituality of each person but it deals also with the great and small emotional experiences of all peoples in any age or of any nationality. Poetry deals with philosophy, with the searching for answers to the unsolved mysteries of what it is to be human. Therefore it is at home as part of the great religious movements throughout history and when men and women fall in Love. It celebrates that intimate beauty and trust that only those in Love really feel. Yet there are many branches of the poetic art and I provide the reader with just six general categories which I use.

All these six major arbitrary categories I use and it is joy to write and give to the reader delight and challenge, joy and real pleasure! I have never knowingly been within one hundred miles of a ‘creative writing course.’ The beauty of poetry is its music of the spoken word which it reveals in the written word. It is the lilt and sonority of language captured on the page! It lingers in the mind of the imagination because it in harmony with our understanding.
These categories are an arbitrary classification which I, as the author use to enable me to gather together in some recognisable form of classification. That will enable the reader to better appreciate and understand the flow of thought and revelation in some kind of coherent pattern. Also it may assist the reader in selecting and forming a reading pattern to suit the mood and inclination of the moment.

This collection of verse is part
of the work of one of the major
poets of our era. The title is a
quotation which reflects the
philosophy of the eminent
Greek writer Epicurus who
wrote some two and a half
centuries before Christ.
When contemplating beauty
and truth in harmony with
the moral duty of doing good,
the human person seeks
serenity, balance and peace.
